KITTY CUCUMBER “GRACEFUL GLIDERS” ICE SKATING PORCELAIN FIGURINE.  The Kitty Cucumber Collection evolved from a favorite cat that artist Mary Lillemoe had as a child- a cat born, of all places, in a cucumber patch.  Many years later, upon first seeing Mary's whimsical sketches of her now famous childhood pet, Mary's 5-year-old daughter Annie proudly announced, "That's Kitty Cucumber!"  And with that out- of- the mouths-of babes exclamation, a collection was born.  Schmid was an international leader in fine gifts and collectibles, and transformed Kitty and her friends into finely handcrafted, hand painted collectibles.  This figurine for auction “Graceful Gliders” depicts the holiday activity which celebrates Winter in trademark Kitty style.  Both Priscilla and Ginger- Kitty Cucumber’s friends - are skating in old-world style.  Priscilla is quite “prissy”-a feline who is forever concerned about her looks.  Nonetheless she’s always a devoted friend.  Ginger is a bit saucy and carefree, but always full of fun.  Both kitties are all dress up for the Winter with their Victorian-style clothes along with a muff.  They both look stylish indeed with coat jacket, hat, mittens, etc.  They are ice skating and doing it well- hence the title “graceful gliders”.   They both have gleaming eyes with white whiskers.  Realistic looking indeed.  It measures 3” high.  Underneath the figurine it has the Kitty Cucumber trademark with © 1992, B. Shackman, Schmid.  In addition, it has a Schmid sticker.  It is Schmid #31244.  Although vintage, it is in excellent condition-never displayed.  From a pet and smoke-free home.
